A car is a big investment. It can take thousands of dollars to get a car that you actually like and that is going to work for you and keeping that car running is a must. A tune-up is a great way to get your vehicle running well and to keep it running well, but what is involved in a tune up, to keep reading to find out.

What Is Included in a Car Tune Up?

A tune-up starts first with a visual inspection of the engine and of the operating systems for the vehicle. This means looking at things like the brakes, the belts, the filters, and so on without delving very deeply into it to start. With a tune-up, your vehicle is going to be gone over to ensure that it is operating properly and that it does not need parts replaced.

Your mechanic might look at filters like the oil filter, the engine air filter, and other filters that help the car run smoothly. They may also look at the belts that run the engine. If the belt is in bad shape or if it appears to have too much wear and tear, it may need to be replaced. The mechanic will also check hoses to ensure that they are not cracked or damaged in any way.

They will look at distributor caps, rotors, brakes, fluid levels, and more. The whole idea of a tune-up is to catch issues before they become major and before they have the chance to cause major problems with your engine and with the function of your vehicle.

How Often Does My Car Need a Tune Up?

Most cars will not need a tune-up terribly often. For the most part, you do need to keep track of the mileage on your vehicle and use the mileage as a baseline for when you need a tune-up. Most manufacturers are going to have a schedule that you should follow to help keep your vehicle running great.

The routine maintenance schedule for most vehicles is a 10,000-mile service, 30,000, 60,000, and so on. This means that each time you reach one of those milestones, you should be taking your vehicle in to have it serviced and to have it inspected. You also need to keep in mind that if you are driving a great deal you are going to meet those milestones much faster than someone that does not drive a great deal.

If you are not driving often, and it takes a long time to meet those mileage markers, you may want to stick to an every-year schedule. Also, if you are dealing with any issues, it is always best to take the time to take your vehicle in for work or for inspection prior to the issue becoming larger and more daunting to take care of.

Caring for your vehicle is a must, and taking the time to get a tune-up can greatly help ensure your vehicle keeps running well no matter what.
