Signs That It’s Time for Tire Replacement in Lubbock, TX

March 23, 2018 Published by Leave your thoughts

Thanks to advancements in technology, tires these days last a lot longer than they used to. That being said, they’re not invincible. Over time, they must be replaced with a new set in order for you to be safe out on the road. If you’ve noticed any of the following signs, it’s time to bring your vehicle in for tire replacement in Lubbock, TX:

  • Age: You may not even have to look at your tires to know it’s time for them to be replaced. When they need to be replaced varies depending on whom you ask. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend you replace your tires every six years. Tire manufacturers, on the other hand, will probably tell you that you can wait 10 years before replacing them. Check your owner’s manual to see what your car’s manufacturer recommends.
  • Bald spots: Tire tread is crucial for keeping your car on the road, especially when the roads are slick after it rains. If you notice any bald spots, take your car in as soon as possible to get a new set of tires. It could be the difference between staying safe or getting into an accident while you’re out for a drive.
  • Tread wear: Your tires don’t have to be completely bald for you to know that it’s time for replacement—you can have some tread left and still need a new set of shoes for your car. In fact, your tread depth should never go below 1/16 of an inch. Luckily for those who don’t have a gauge to measure tread, there’s the penny test. Take a penny and stick Lincoln’s head into the tread. If you can still see the president’s whole head, you don’t have enough tread and your tires need to be replaced.
  • Sidewall cracks: The sides of your tires can also indicate when it’s time for replacement. If you notice any tiny cracks on the sidewall, your tire is getting old and needs to be replaced. Waiting too long can result in an unexpected blowout.
  • Bulges: Again, check the sidewalls. Are there any abnormal bulges? If so, bring your car to a mechanic for replacement. Strange bulges are signs of an aging tire that’s on its way out.
  • Shaking: Do you notice your car slightly moving from side to side as you’re driving down the road? That’s understandable if you’re on uneven or rough pavement, but if you’re just driving on a regular flat road and you sense your car shaking, you could have an issue with your tires. That shaking could be a problem with your alignment, but it could also stem from an issue with the interior of your tire. Either way, it’s a good idea to come in and let us inspect your vehicle.
