What Is Included In A Cars Tune Up?

February 18, 2023 Published by Leave your thoughts

A tune up is a service that is meant to extend the life of your vehicle and maximize its performance. Performing this type of maintenance can save you money in the long run.

Oil Change

A tune up is a routine service that involves the replacement of key parts. It also helps keep small problems from becoming major ones, so it’s worth taking the time to follow a maintenance schedule. Depending on your vehicle, oil should be changed every 3,000 to 10,000 miles. Coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid should be changed at regular intervals, too, to make sure they stay clean and perform their best.

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are the metal tips that ignite the air/fuel mixture in each engine cylinder to create the energy your engine needs. As the spark plugs wear down, they can cause misfires and even stalling. Depending on your vehicle, spark plugs are usually replaced every 30,000 to 40,000 miles or more. Higher-cost platinum-tipped plugs may not need to be changed as often.

Ignition System

The ignition system of your vehicle is comprised of various components, including spark plugs, coils, distributor cap and rotor. Its goal is to distribute gas-igniting sparks to different engine cylinders at the right time so that your car will run properly and efficiently. Today’s vehicles experience fewer problems with this system than previous generations. However, the system still includes components that need to be replaced periodically, including spark plugs and wires.

Belts & Hoses

The belts and hoses in your car or truck perform a wide variety of vital functions. They power your alternator, water pump and brakes, and transport gas, air, oil and antifreeze. Over time, these parts can degrade, causing damage to other components. That’s why yearly inspections and replacements are essential to the health of your vehicle. Serpentine belts power many of your engine’s components, including the alternator, water pump and power-steering pump. They also maintain synchronization between the crankshaft and camshaft. Other belts include timing belts, which ensure the timing of engine processes by transferring pressure to the pistons. Likewise, radiator hoses carry liquid coolant to and from the radiator and heater core. They can become loose, swollen, or frayed over time.

Tires

When you bring your vehicle in for a tune up, your mechanic will also make sure all the tires are balanced and rotated at the proper intervals. This will help your tires wear evenly and last longer, making your driving experience smoother and safer. Tires are often the first parts to go out on any vehicle, so it’s important to be proactive and take care of them as soon as possible.
